A lot of people always think of it as "I.T.E" or "It's The End" once you're laid off or retrenched. However, the real thing that kills you is not loss of a job. The bigger loss is the lost of the fighting spirit. In these troubled times when we face globalisation challenges with competition from all over the world, you just cannot sit down and relax anymore.
You have seen many people suffering from depression or stress related symptoms. Some even resort to committing suicide or ending their life. This is an act of cowardism. Life is not as bad as it seems. There is enough wealth in the world to go around, says the top businessmen and wealth experts. A good prove would be the recent historical record breaking of 12,000 points in the Dow Jones Index.
The thing that kills you is not the loss of the job but the loss of the survival instinct. Why do I say that? I have seen many people losing their self esteem and their fighting spirit the moment they lose their job. Some of them even dwell on the fact that it was their fault. The same goes to entrepreneurs who loses money in their first business venture.
Here comes thea mental paradigm shift. One of the most powerful gifts we were born with. Unfortunately, not many people can uncover the power of this hidden. I'm almost certain most animals and insects have them. They don't give up or run for their lives without a good fight. Why do I say that? Have you ever seen an animal commit suicide knowingly? Only humans are such weaklings.
For all those unemployed folks out there reading this, do yourself a favour.
What can you do if you're unemployed? There are many things you could do. E.g. Run your own business, internet marketing, Google Adsense, Click Flipping, Affiliate Marketing and many more. You could also pick up thousands of business ideas if you open your thoughts and abused the search engines. My meaning of abuse is to really use them thoroughly.
I can just tell you what can of advice I gave to some who were home-based dads and mums. There was a guy who was a photo taking enthusiast and asked me how to make money using a camera. I told him, simple. Just go to the parks and take high quality pictures of insects, plants, animals and sell them off as stock photo. Alternatively, they could also make a small section of the house and convert it to a small photo studio. Next they could also create a e-book about how to take good stock photogaphs or even an e-book on how to make money using a camera.
This is just a very simple example. The reason I can think of that is that I have opened my eyes on what are the latest opportunities available. You really need to think out of the box...or to think without the box. Set no boundaries. I've just saw that the latest version of what a future PC looked like. It just consists of 5 ball point pens. What the pen does is it projects a screen from one of the pen. The other would project a keyboard. You could type on the table, yes on the letter show by the light and it gets processed. That's awesome technology from Korea. Being in the IT and Infocomm industry can't be wrong because it pushes you to learn new things at a faster pace. Either you do that or you're out. Chances is, most of those who leaves the IT industry to start their own businesses are likely to be in a better position after getting used to the fast pace over the years.
To end you unemployment streak, you need to ask this question. How do you make yourself in demand again. Simple, you need to be ahead of most people. You just need to know something that most people don't or know it earlier. You need to be good at something too. You need to have strong domain knowledge in something valuable. Something like cake baking might be too generic. Likewise, it can be said about accountants. However, if you're in merger and acquisitions, it is a different story altogether.
Talking about domain expert, let me quote you another good example. Ron Kaufman is a reknown public speaker. He could have gone into any areas. There were plenty of good public speakers and trainers in motivation, sales, management...etc. So he made the smart move and went into an area which had very little competition and made it his own. He chose to be theCustomer Service Training Guru and he has not looked back since. He has since published more than 20 books and is a sort after speaker in Customer Service. He was also the Customer Service Consultant who helped Singapore Airlines, one of the Asia's largest and most profitable airlines excelled and ranked top in customer service.
Just don't give up and don't lose your survival instinct. Get your mind thinking and you will see lot's of money making opportunities.
